The artist Christian Rock worked for several years aboard cruise ships. Constantly traveling the world’s oceans—the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean—opened his eyes to the infinite vastness of their skies. Especially at night on the open sea, far from any source of light, these skies are particularly striking. Their boundlessness corresponds with the stars sparkling in the firmament.
For the artist, their radiance is comparable to the presence of cut diamonds and embodies their brilliance and splendor. This analogy to diamonds is also rooted in the artist’s biography. As a teenager, he completed an internship with a diamond appraiser, where he acquired his first diamond. Since then, the radiance and perfection of these gemstones have exerted a deep fascination on him.
